1. Âm và chữ G g; GH gh - Sound & letters G g; GH gh

♦ Phát âm [ɣ] – Pronouncing [ɣ]

[ɣ] is a velar voiced fricative consonant, the voiced counterpart of the voiceless consonant kh. When producing the consonant [ɣ], the tongue blade is moving backwards, the tongue tip is located at the bottom of the lower teeth, the back of the tongue rises toward the velum, leaving a narrow channel through which the air squeezes on its way out. The consonant [ɣ] is indicated: g and gh.

Note: that the Vietnamese consonant g is unlike the English /g/ (which is a stop consonant). For example: Vietnamese ga, ghi - English garment, give.

Gh: Placed before i, ê, e, iê: ghim, ghép, ghê, ghen, ghiền.

G: Placed before the remaining sounds: ga, go, gô, gu, guốc.

2. Âm và chữ NG ng; NGH ngh - Sound & letter NG ng; NGH ngh 

♦ Phát âm [ŋ] - Pronouncing [ŋ]

[ŋ] is a velar voiced stop nasal consonant. In the production of this consonant the tongue blade is moving backwards, with the contact of the back of the tongue against the velum, which is lowered to allow air to escape through the nasal cavity: nga, ngô, nghi, nghe.

The consonant [ŋ] is indicated: ng and ngh.

♦ Chính tả - Spelling

Ngh: Placed before i, ê, e, iê: nghi, nghé, nghê, nghen, nghiền.

Ng: Placed before the remaining vowels (nga, ngo, ngô, ngủ) and the labialization u/o: ngoan ngoãn. Ng can be placed in final consonant position.
