1. Âm và chữ T t - Sound & letters T t

♦ Phát âm t [t] – Pronouncing t [t]

The initial consonant “t” is similar to the English consonant sounds /t/ (voiceless, unaspirated, dental stop). For example: ta, tiếng.

The voiceless stop consonant “t” when occurring in the final position of a syllable is implosive. It is created with a rapid burst when the closure is released: tất, bật.

♦ Chính tả - Spelling

T can combine with all nuclear vowels and the labialization u/o; it can be the initial or final consonants. When T is the final consonants [t] may have only two tones - either: "sắc" (high-rising) or "nặng" (low-falling broken).

2. Âm và chữ TH th - Sound & letter TH th 

♦ Phát âm th [tʰ] - Pronouncing th [tʰ]

Th [tʰ] is an alveolar voiceless aspirated stop consonant which has a position similar to that of [t], but is pronounced with aspirated release. The Vietnamese “t” and “th” are quite different consonants which constrast with each other as aspirated and unaspirated and are used to distinguish word meanings: ta – tha, ti – thi, etc.

3. Âm và chữ TR tr - Sound & letter TR tr

♦ Phát âm tr [ƫ] - Pronouncing tr [ƫ]

Tr [ƫ] is a retroflex voiceless stop consonant. The tongue tip is rising and slightly curled back, while the front of the tongue blade makes a contact with the alveolar ridge: trà, tre, trí.

Note that "tr" in Vietnamese indicates one consonant sound unlike the combination of two characters /tr/ in English where they indicate two separate sounds "t" and "r", for instance: train, treat, trim.
