1. Âm và chữ D d; GI gi - Sound & letters D d; GI gi

♦ Phát âm [z] – Pronouncing [z]

D and GI [z] are voiced consonant, pronounced almost like the English sound /z/ as in zoo, zambo.

- Let the tongue lightly touch the upper gums and the soft palate will rise.

- Push the air out between the tongue and upper gums so that you can hear the sound of the air escaping.

- Vibrates the vocal cords in the throat when pronouncing.

- This sound [z] has two spelling forms: D and GI

D and Gi are initial consonants and can combine with all vowels.

GI is not combined with the labialization u/o.

2. Âm và chữ R r - Sound & letter R r

♦ Phát âm r [ȥ] - Pronouncing r [ȥ]

R is a retroflex voiced fricative consonant. This consonant is produced by the tongue tip rising and slightly curled back and the front of the tongue rising towards the hard palate. It resembles the sound of /g/ as pronounced in the word genre, for instance: ra, rổ, rìa.

In the Northern dialect, R [ȥ] is often pronounced as D, Gi [z].
